If you’re not on the air fryer train yet, this chicken fajita recipe may be the one to convince you. It’s on the table in just half an hour! The circulated hot air ensures that the chicken comes out juicy, and the flavorful onions and peppers have the tastiest charred bits.
Apart from being super simple to make, these fajitas are a family-friendly way to enjoy the best Mexican-style flavors. The seasoning blend is made with everyday ingredients, and these fajitas are amazing with tortillas and a generous squeeze of lime!
What you’ll need
- Chicken – boneless skinless chicken breasts
- Fajita seasoning – a custom blend of chili powder (most are mild), smoked paprika, ground cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, dried oregano, and salt & pepper
- Bell peppers – yellow and red are preferred since they’re sweeter
- Onion – use a sweet onion like Vidalia, Walla Walla, etc.
- Olive oil – to get everything nice and golden

Pro tip
All air fryers vary, and so does slice thickness, so when you’re first making these keep an eye on the cooking time. You may need to add a little more time than noted in the recipe.
How to make air fryer chicken fajitas

Mix together the spices in a prep bowl. Add the sliced chicken, onion, and peppers to a bowl, then toss well with the olive oil. Sprinkle on half of the seasoning, toss, then add the rest and toss again until coated well.

Add the chicken and veggies to the air fryer basket in an even layer. Air fry until the chicken is cooked through, tossing with cooking tongs around the 10-minute mark. Serve with the suggestions below!
Substitutions and variations
- Prefer to use your oven? Try Sheet Pan Chicken Fajitas instead.
- To save time, you could use store-bought fajita seasoning.
- You could swap the chicken breasts for boneless skinless chicken thighs. They may take a little longer to cook.
- Change up the color of the bell peppers to suit your preference.
What to serve with air fryer fajitas
- Chicken fajitas are great with tortillas, Guacamole, a big squeeze of fresh lime juice, and plenty of sour cream. Quick Pickled Red Onions would be a great addition too.
- You can skip the tortillas and serve as-is, or build a rice bowl.
- Pico de Gallo makes a great side, and this Avocado Corn Salad pairs well for a complete meal.
Leftovers and storage
- Store leftover fajitas for 3–4 days in the fridge in a covered container.
- Reheat in the microwave or a saucepan until heated through. You can also air fry for a few minutes to revive some texture.
- Leftovers can be frozen for up to 3 months. Keep in mind that the vegetables will soften further and the chicken may dry out slightly upon reheating.
